Controversy Erupts Over Michael Jackson's Single from This Is It

Even after his death,  continues to attract controversy. To promote the upcoming documentary This Is It — which incorporates footage from rehearsals for the tour Jackson was planning before his death in late June — the Jackson estate released a new single on Sunday at midnight, also entitled "This Is It." No sooner had the single been released than singer/songwriter Paul Anka reared his head and threatened to sue.

It seems that "This Is It" is not the novel single it's supposed to be. Instead, it draws very noticably from a song called "I Never Heard," a track Anka and Jackson co-wrote for Safire in the early 80s. Apparently, Jackson "stole" the tapes from Anka over a dispute. A Jackson estate administrator recently got ahold of the tapes and used them, not realizing their origins.

By midday Monday, Anka had gone on record threatening legal action, saying, "They have a major, major problem on their hands. They will be sued if they don't correct it." But since then, the Jackson estate has acknowledged the mistake and promised Anka half of the roylaties. Later, Anka was quoted as saying, "They did the right thing ... I don't think that anybody tried to do the wrong thing. It was an honest mistake."

So how closely does "I Never Heard" resemble "This Is It?" Judge for yourself:
